Our summer programs are in full swing with students from all over Western New York. The
Higher Achievement Program is a mix of academic and summer recreation activities geared
for boys between their seventh- and eighth-grade school years. Many participants in the pro-
gram will become Canisius Crusaders. Current Canisius students also are very involved in
summer academic and athletic activities at school. These programs keep the campus active
and busy all summer.
Various upgrades and updates take place this time of year as well. This year we are particular-
ly excited about preparation to welcome our largest incoming freshman class inmany years.
The biggest excitement of the summer, in anticipation of September, is the distribution of
iPads. Students entering for the 2012-13 school year will use iPads as the school embarks
on the first ever one-to-one computing program (see page 15). Teachers have spent consid-
erable time preparing for this program with a series of professional development opportu-
nities during the 2011-12 school year. Canisius is a pioneer in programs of this type locally
and joins a few Jesuit schools nationally to lead the way in this new technology. The use of
iPads will enhance and enrich the curriculum and extend the reach of our classrooms into
the world. Many books and resources will be available on the iPads and instant access to the
internet will keep information at the fingertips of faculty and students alike.
The growth and educational progress at Canisius in 2012 is exciting and encouraging. It is a
great time to be a Crusader.
