First School-Sponsored Habitat House Closing in on Completion
The first Habitat for Humanity Buffalo project ever sponsored by
high school—Canisius, of course—is nearly ready for its debut. The un
precedented venture began back in May as the first demolition crew
Crusaders raised their hammers on a derelict Buffalo house. Student
parents, staff and alumni have worked for months to transform the build
ing on Buffalo’s East Side into an updated, affordable home for a deserv
ing family. Said alumnus David Zablotny ’72, Habitat Buffalo’s executiv
director, “Most of our sponsors are large corporations or charitable foun
dations so this was an inspiring commitment by Canisius.”
