On Sept. 28, Canisius High School continued a
tradition that was reborn last year: the Walk for
Canisius.
Last year, students achieved their goal, and
their hard work resulted in the purchase of
brand new lockers for the Montante Academic
Wing. Building on last year’s success, the stu-
dent body raisedmoney this year to buy a brand
new 15-passenger bus for Canisius. The bus will
provide transportation for the school’s various
clubs, teams and service trips.
The freshman class in particular showed its
dedication to its new school by becoming the
school leader in collections. To reward their
support, Canisius awarded the students a Walk
Holiday. The Canisius High School community
would like to thank all of the friends, family and
neighbors who supported the walkathon.
EDITOR’S NOTE:
The school’s new bus ar-
rived in the first week of October, fresh off
its successful New York State Department of
Transportation inspection.

Walk for Canisius makes strides toward goal
By Jake Dittenhauser ‘13
Jack Armstrong has a lot of opinions. One would ex-
pect the color commentator for the NBA’s Toronto
Raptors to be loquacious. On September 26, the
senior class got the opportunity to soak up some of
life’s intangible experiences from Armstrong’s 27-year
coaching and broadcasting career. The first speaker
of the new Senior Speakers Series, Armstrong
offered up a series of questions for the class of
2012 to reflect on as they prepare to go from “kings
of the mountain” at Canisius to new kids on the
block at college.
The emphasis of the talk was simple and sound ad-
vice for anyone but, particularly, for young men on the
precipice of adulthood: College prepares you for the
rest of your life; four years for the next 40. Don’t wait
for opportunity to come to you; create your opportu-
nity. Be a true friend; walk into your friends’ lives when
the rest of the world is walking out. Remember those
who sacrifice every day for you, and don’t forget to tell
them you love them. Be a “Man for Others.”
The Senior Speakers Series is a new initiative between
the principal and the Alumni Office to offer seniors ac-
cess to role models of the Canisius and Western New
York community. The next speaker was Tom Perez
‘79, assistant attorney general, Civil Rights Division.
Perez addressed seniors on October 27 after his talk
with alumni at the Downtowners Luncheon Speaker
Series (see page 10).
