retired after more
than 50 years of teaching at Franciscan
University of Steubenville, Ohio. Franciscan
has established a scholarship fund (history)
in his name and has also created the “John
and Mary Carrigg History Lectures” series.

is enjoying
retirement.
Lucian Parlato ‘43
and wife, Josephine,
celebrated their silver wedding anniversary
in October 2011. He has been practicing
law for 37 years.
Donald P. Pinkel ‘44
is still teaching part
time in the biology department at California
Polytechnic State University in San Luis
Obispo, Calif. His 10 children are now all
adults, and he has 16 grandchildren.
Thomas P. Brennan ‘45
is enjoying life as
a 1987 retiree of Harrison Radiator.
Richard J. Diebold ‘47
retired from law
practice in July 2011.
Emmet J. McNamara ‘47
retired from the
SUNY/Education Opportunity Center in
1991. He recently returned to the United
States after living 21 years in the west of
the Irish Republic.
Chester Pawenska ‘47
and wife, Carol,
celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary
in July 2011.
John D. Cahill ‘48
is the second ever
recipient of the distinguished Benjamin F.
Miller Award from the Taxation Section of
the State Bar of California, given on Nov.
3, 2011.
David F. Wolski ‘48
is enjoying Florida
while watching his grandson evolve into
“an impressive young man, scholar and
athlete.”

Stephen DeWitt , OFM, ‘00
Stephen DeWitt ,‘00 a Franciscan friar of Holy Name Province, was ordained
a priest on May 19 at a Mass at St. Camillus Church outside Washington, D.C.
Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, archbishop emeritus of Washington, celebrated
the Rite of Presbyteral Ordination of DeWitt. A 2004 graduate of St. Bonaventure
with a bachelor’s degree in history and theology, DeWitt received his master’s of
divinity degrees from Washington Theological Union on May 4. Before professing
his solemn vows in September 2011, DeWitt spent a year of formation interning
at Holy Name Province ministries. He was based in South America, strengthen-
ing his knowledge of the Spanish language and serving at St. Anne’s Parish in
Lima, Peru. For his first assignments as priest, DeWitt will serve as parochial vicar
at St. Bonaventure Parish in Paterson, N.J.
John T. Avery ‘49
is still, at age 80, an
active and full-time commercial real estate
broker, having achieved emeritus designa-
tion from the National Association of
Realtors, where he is a 40-year member.

and wife, Mary Ann,
celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary
in October 2011.
Kenneth A. Schwarz ‘50
and wife, Pat,
placed first in the category “Under 4,000
Population” at the award program for
America in Bloom, a natural horticultural
organization in Washington, D.C.
Robert G. Racicot ‘51
is a deacon in the
Catholic Church.
Joseph Mercurio ‘52
and wife, Marlene
Ann, celebrated their 50th wedding an-
niversary on May 30, 2012.
George Dixon, Jr.’53
received the
Canisius College Ray Gordon Award for
40 years of outstanding service as the
1950s decade chairman for the Canisius
College Alumni Association.
Thomas F. Myers ‘54
retired from
law after 33 years in his own firm, but
remains as counsel for an arbitrator and
mediator. Tom and his wife, Milly, have
11 grandchildren, the oldest of whom
graduated from the University of Detroit
Jesuit High School this past spring. They
spend summers on the shores of Lake
Erie enjoying the weather, sailing and their
grandchildren.

is on the board
of directors of the American Academy of
Dermatology.

celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary
in April 2012.

recently retired
as director of corporate logistics for East
Penn Mfg. Co. Inc.
Robert Dubel ‘57
and his wife celebrated
their 60th wedding anniversary with fam-
ily and friends at two celebrations – in
Naples, Fla., and at the Park Country Club
in Buffalo.
Robert L. Infantino ‘57
was named the
2011 Distinguished Teacher Educator by
the California Council on the Education of
Teachers (CCTE).
John F. Marszalek ‘57
is the execu-
tive director and managing editor of the
Ulysses S. Grant Association and the
Giles Distinguished Professor Emeritus of
History at Mississippi State University.
Roy A. Kupkowski ‘57
A retired pharma-
cist and alcohol/drug counselor, Roy is
enjoying his retirement by going to France
for three months. He and his wife live
north of Atlanta and have three children.
