Football Alumni Rivalry Bash
On a warm September evening, Canisius High School football alumni gathered in the
Kennedy Field House to celebrate and support one of the most storied sports programs
in Western New York. In attendance were players representing 60 years of Canisius
football. Event chairman Phil McConkey ‘75 inspired the group with anecdotal stories of
his success in football and in life. He received the loudest cheers as he shared his finest
memories of wearing the blue and gold, specifically the victories over St. Joe’s he shared
with his teammates that ensured the continuation of “The Streak”.
The program, held on the eve of this year’s Canisius vs. St. Joe’s game, was a tremen-
dous success. All in attendance looked forward to building on this tradition. Each attendee
accepted the challenge to bring two to four teammates to next year’s bash.
Several other sports host annual alumni gatherings, including the Blue and Gold Swim
held annually on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Coach Kyle Husband coordinated
an alumni open gym on December 22. The varsity team scrimmaged Niagara Falls in
the Kennedy Field House, and basketball alumni who attended the scrimmage took the
floor for an alumni pickup game. The 14th Annual Alumni Hockey Game took place on
December 24 at Holiday Twin Rinks.
